Fishing Deep in the Summer

Fishing Deep in the Summer

  • On August 25, 2021

We do a lot of fishing deep in the summer, most of the lakes we guide on, are deep mountain TVA impoundments. These lakes have Spotted bass, Smallmouth bass, and Largemouth bass, and in the summer these fish will go deep, due to a lot of boat traffic, deeper means cooler water temps and better oxygen levels.  In the summer we look for fish to be offshore out on humps, long points with deep drops and submerge creeks and ditches. The techniques we use are the drop shot with 4.5″ to 6″ worms or minnow style baits. Small 2.75 to 3.25 swimbaits like the Strike King rage swimmer. Z-Man trd worm. The biggest part of being successful in July and August is knowing how to use your electronics, I use my Humminbird Helix 12 mainly for mapping and I keep my main focus on my Garmin 1022 livescope, if it’s not showing any fish it’s time to move on. Fall fishing is just around the corner, book for a chance to catch some big Spotted bass on lake Chatuge or lake Burton or book a frog or punching grass trip on Chickamauga lake. Here are some pictures from July and August. Give us a call and book now.
